FLOSS lovers Ramadan Iftar day

To all Free/Libre/Open Source Software lovers and enthusiastic in the Kingdom, we are planning for a FLOSS Ramadan Iftar day gathering for Jolug, Ubuntu Jordan and Jordan PHP.

We didn’t decide the day yet but it should take place sometime between 15-25 Ramadan/September and should cost around 20 JOD per fasting human in one of 3+ stars hotels.

If you are one of them, if you want to get to know them, if you want a prove that we eat with a GUI not CLI or if you just feel hungry and want to join bunch of geeks on Iftar, send me an email to blog (at) Syntux {dot} net including your mobile number to arrange money collection for reservation.

Ramadan Karim :-)

  3. I started to hate programming or is it programmer pms?
  4. A small network solutions based on Ubuntu in the Kingdom received a threat and some sort of bribe discounts to sell Microsoft products instead which means we have a task for the National Open Source Office lawyer, oh we don’t have a lawyer yet!
  5. I should blog about my MOTU journey
  6. I should find a way to organize my mental state with the loads of different type of works
  7. Jordan LoCo is idle in summer, believe me it’s too hot out there to do any kind of activities.
  8. Cycling to the lowest point on earth during summer is a bad idea!

No speaker slot for the poor me this time but I will be handling the Installation festival, hopefully we will be able to distribute more than 200 CD although the estimate number of visitors goes beyond 5,000, we are still hunting for a sponsor if you think you can sponsor us please leave a comment as we are in big need for more CDs

Ubuntu Jordan LoCo: FLOSS Introduction – Princess Sumaya University of Technology

Amman, April 9th-10th 2008 -Ubuntu Jordan LoCo Team.
Ubuntu Jordan LoCo Team Logo As part of Ubuntu Jordan LoCo Team continuous efforts to spread awareness about GNU/Linux in the Kingdom, the team organized a public event at Pricess Sumaya University for Technology in Cooperation with The King Hussein School for Information Technology. Mr. Jad Madi & Khamis SekSik gave a two hours lecture Introducing FLOSS in the Jordanian way, as well as a brief background of FLOSS history.

PSUT

In addition, the lecture included Mr.Seksik explaining some reasons to use FLOSS Jordan, as well as comparing selling service VS selling software, and comparing backward compatibility issues between FLOSS and other software.

Other issues discussed by like the ethical reasons to use FLOSS. The argument is that using proprietary software without paying for it equal theft and as such is unethical. In many ways, we highlighted title=”Ubuntu Jordan LoCo Team- March 2008 event”>again, choosing the right software is a very important decision because it affects time, effort, and money invested in this software.
